How to Cut Mangos

Learn how to slice & dice juicy mangos!

Become a mango pro with these simple tips and tricks to ensure you get every sweet, juicy bite from these tropical faves. While there are a variety of methods to cut a mango for your morning smoothie or a refreshing afternoon snack, we’ve broken it down into four easy-to-follow steps just for you!

Choose mango-nificently!

Before taking this mango-chopping crash course, let’s learn how to pick ’em! A mango is ripe and ready to be enjoyed when it has a light, fragrant aroma and gives to gentle pressure when squeezed. Depending on the variety, a mango’s color doesn’t always determine ripeness! The best way to know when it’s ready to enjoy is by the firmness and sweet aroma.

Step 1:

Mangoes have an oblong seed running through the center that’s about 1/4-inch in width. Make your first slices alongside the center seed, creating two halves.

Step 2:

Gently make vertical slices in each half, being careful not to pierce the skin on the other side.
Mango slicing step 2

Step 3:

Once both halves have vertical slices, cut the flesh in a grid-like pattern, making small squares without slicing through the skin on the other side.
Mango slicing step 3

Step 4:

At this point, you can use a spoon to gently scoop between the flesh and the skin to pop out the cubes or you can use your hands to push the skin from underneath the flesh, creating a hedgehog-like effect. If your mango is ripe enough, you may be able to salvage a bit from the seed. Use a small paring knife alongside the seed and the skin to remove a little more goodness!
Cut mangoes step 4

How to store mangos:

Once you have sliced or diced your mangos, you can use them right away or store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about five days. They also freeze extremely well and make a delicious addition to smoothies or can be used as ice cubes in your favorite mocktail! To freeze: Be sure to spread your mango chunks on a baking sheet or cutting board to flash freeze before placing them into a freezer bag or container to prevent them from sticking together. Once they are hard enough, transfer them to your container of choice and freeze for up to six months.

Juicing Made Easy

Get ready to boost your immune system naturally!

Juice in a glass surrounded by produce

Wondering how to get those recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet? Juicing may be the answer! When you juice fruits and vegetables, you typically have to use more of the produce: Instead of eating one stalk of celery, you’re juicing several stalks of celery, which means you get more of the phytochemicals and micronutrients that make juicing so beneficial.

Shop Now

Keep in mind…

One drawback to juicing is that the process removes the fiber that can help you feel fuller longer and helps keep digestion in check. When you start juicing for the first time, keep it low on sugar! Strive for a healthy mix of mostly veggies with a bit of fruit for a sweet variety of nutritional benefits. A four-ounce serving of fruit juice is equivalent to a whole serving of fruit. So add in all the greens you like with a bit of fruit for a balanced refreshment full of goodness.

Power up with nutritious add-ins

Another great way to boost flavor and nutrition without excess sugar is to find simple add-ins. Try a little earthy turmeric root for its curcuminoids that lend powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to your drink. Ginger will add a spicy zip to your sip and promote better digestion. A dash of cinnamon adds great flavor and is high in antioxidants.

Sip on these scrumptious juice blends!

Dig in to these frightfully delicious toasts … if you dare!

Spooky season is upon on us, so why not get in the spirit with a fun, creative treat the whole family can enjoy? These hauntingly good toast recipes are easy-peasy and don’t require many tricks, just treats! Plus, each one can be crafted with gluten-free and vegan-friendly ingredients. Grilled Cheese Ghosts

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices Whole wheat or gluten-free bread
  • Vegan butter, for grilling
  • Shredded vegan mozzarella cheese
  • Black olives, for decor

  • How to:

  • Cut a ghost shape out of one slice of bread. Cut one side of the full slide and just one side of the slice with the cutout ghost in the center (the edges around the ghost). Save the cut-out ghost for the below recipe.
  • For the full slice of bread with no cutout, place butter-side down on skillet over medium heat. Do the same with the slice of bread with the ghost cutout in the middle. You will end up putting these two slices together in a moment.
  • Spread mozzarella cheese overtop only the full slice of bread in one even layer as the other side of the slice sears.
  •
  • Place the leftover bread (with the ghost cutout in the middle) overtop the full slice of bread with no cutout.  Make sure the butter side/seared side is facing up. Allow the grilled cheese ghost sandwich to continue to cook another minute or two to allow the cheese to melt into the top slice and help hold the sandwich together.  Take the grilled cheese off the burner and decorate with black olive slices to make a ghost face if desired.
  •
  • For the actual ghost cutout, you can save this for the recipe below.  Or, you can spread the mozzarella cheese over top of the ghost cut out too.  You can place this piece in a toaster oven at 400°F to cook it and melt the cheese until golden brown. Then decorate it with black olives for the ghost face too.
Vegan grilled cheese ghost

Ghost Toast

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices Whole wheat or gluten-free bread
  • Vegan cream cheese
  • Raisins and chocolate chips, for decor

  • How to:

  • Toast the bread.
  • Cut a ghost shape out of one slice of bread only.
  • Spread cream cheese overtop the ghost and the other slice of bread.
  • Place the slice of bread with the ghost cutout overtop the slice of bread with no cutout.
  • Decorate both ghosts with raisins for the ghost mouth and chocolate chips for the ghost eyes.
Vegan ghost toast

Sweet Spider Web Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice Whole wheat or gluten-free bread
  • 2 Tbsp. Nutella or hazelnut spread
  • 2 Tbsp. Vanilla fruit dip or vegan icing
  • 1 Medjool date, pitted
  • 2-3 Pretzel twists

  • How to:

  • Lightly toast one piece of bread.
  • Spread 2 tablespoons of Nutella or hazelnut spread overtop to cover the toast entirely.
  • Use a fork or squeeze bottle with a fine tip to make the spider web design out of the cashew icing.
  • Halve the date lengthwise for the spider’s body and place it on the web.
  • Break the pretzel twists to create tiny spider legs and add 6 pieces (3 on each side of the date). Enjoy!
Nutella spider toast

Pumpkin & Fall Leaf Toast

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices Whole wheat or gluten-free bread
  • Pumpkin flavored hummus, or hummus of choice
  • Reed, yellow and orange bell peppers, sliced into 1-inch pieces

  • How to:

  • Use a pumpkin shaped cookie cutter to cut a pumpkin image out of one slice of bread.
  • Spread hummus over top the other slice and place the bread with the pumpkin cutout hole overtop. This way you don’t waste any bread.
  • For the pumpkin that was cut out, spread pumpkin hummus overtop. Use a tiny piece of the bread’s crust for the stem.
  • For the leaves, lightly toast 2 slices of bread.
  • Use a knife to cut leaves out of one slice of bread.
  • Spread hummus over top the other slice and place the bread with the leaf cutout holes overtop. This way you don’t waste any bread. Decorate with sliced bell pepper.
