“Sprouts is committed to operating our business in a way that respects social and environmental well-being. We call this commitment “responsible retailing,” and it's engrained within our culture. We all play a role in being good stewards of our planet and its finite resources and, as a growing natural and organic retailer, Sprouts has a unique opportunity to have a positive impact on our communities. As we grow, we will continue to adopt practices that improve our relationship with the environment and strengthen our social responsibility endeavors.”
We partner with suppliers that align with our culture of valuing environmental systems, respecting human rights and protecting animal welfare. We encourage our suppliers to advance responsible sourcing practices and hold them to high standards.
At Sprouts, we are committed to operating our business in a way that minimizes our impact on the environment and safeguards the health of our communities. The major components of Responsible Operations include our Food Rescue program, where we donate food to people in need through local hunger relief agencies; our Food Waste to Farms program, which diverts food waste from landfills to cattle farms or composting facilities; and our Recycling Program, where we recycle plastics and cardboard from our stores and distribution centers.
We believe we have a responsibility to be a positive influence in the communities where our customers and team members live, work and play. Our direct and in-kind donations touch millions of lives every year. Through our newly created Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, we are excited to contribute even more to the health of our communities through meaningful partnerships with local non-profit organizations.
Sprouts team members incorporate energy efficient equipment in all we do when opening new stores and reinvigorating existing locations. We are proud of the fact that all new Sprouts stores are built to LEED Silver specifications. We look for ways to build our stores with energy and water conservation in mind, from installing skylights to harvest natural light to using low-flow water systems. Building responsibly starts with the right store design and a commitment to preserving natural resources.
