Little SecretsDecades ago inside a corner store, a nine year old Chris Mears on roller blades stealthily slipped a piece of candy into the pocket of his jeans and rolled his way to the door. He was stopped, did his time, and reformed his ways, but his sincere love of chocolate still remains. Now a certified grown-up with a penchant for unwrapping candy bars mid-afternoon, Chris wanted to find a way to make his guilty pleasures less incriminating. And yea, verily, so became Little Secrets, an incredible candy brand that sources the best ingredients, says nahhh to any artificial anythings, and understands hiding a bag of our candy-coated chocolates in your top desk drawer. We don’t pretend to be good at everything … or even most things. But where we lack in geography bowl trophies we make up for by being really, really good at making candy-coated chocolate. We’re all about sourcing the best ingredients, using Fair Trade Dark Chocolate, and creating premium blends without any artificial ingredients, flavors or colors because the words “delicious” and “natural” can and should absolutely go together. Pretty regular at everything else, but our candy game is on point. And like any good little secret, sharing is always optional.

Host Defense was founded by Paul Stamets, D.Sc., a leading mycologist, who has studied mushrooms for over forty years. Not only has he discovered several new species of mushrooms, but he’s also pioneered countless techniques in the field of edible and functional mushroom cultivation. Host Defense® supplements are certified organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, U.S.-grown functional foods made from specially processed mushroom fruit bodies and mushroom mycelium (the root structure of the mushroom). The whole mushroom contains a range of compounds that support many of our body’s functions.* Stamets’ extensive research recognizes that mushrooms provide essential nutrients supporting the cardiovascular, neurological and digestive systems, as well as lung, blood sugar, brain and even liver health.*

Research & PreservationA portion of all proceeds generated from Host Defense sales are returned to sponsor research to preserve and protect mushrooms native to old growth forests, in addition to other mission-based projects to help people and planet. The company’s BeeFriendly™ Initiative centers on using mushrooms to help the immune systems of honeybees—to help reverse population decline due to colony collapse disorder. Bees need comprehensive immune support to combat the diseases, parasites and toxins that drive their decline. When fed to honeybees in their sugar water, mushroom extracts like Chaga and Reishi are reducing viral burdens in honeybees up to 75%! The story of Earthbound Farm sounds like a foodie fairy tale. What began in 1984, as a rented raspberry patch and farm stand in Carmel Valley, California, has become the nation’s largest producer of organic produce. There’s no question that founders Drew and Myra Goodman have transformed the way America eats salad. Today, Earthbound Farm grows more than half of the organic salads sold in supermarkets across the country. During their humble beginnings, the Goodman’s decided that doing the right thing meant committing to farming the land organically. They vowed to grow and package food they would feel good about serving their families, friends and neighbors. That labor of love became Earthbound Farm, and that original commitment has never wavered. At Sprouts, you can shop a variety of Earthbound Farm frozen organic fruits and vegetables, as well as a number of organic salads and Deep Green Blends, such as the Kale and Power. The Kale is a medley of tender baby kale leaves, packed with antioxidants, fiber and flavor. While the Power is a versatile mix of tender baby spinach, baby red and green chards, and baby kales ready for salads, smoothies and recipes. The best part is no washing or de-stemming is necessary!
